Architectural Trends to Inspire Your New Build Property

Leeper & Deighton Ltd • Apr 03, 2024

If you’re planning on undertaking a project for a new build property, then it’s important that you have all the necessary preparation in place - from the right planning permission to finding a reliable construction company to work with. Not only that, but you’ll also want to consider what you want your new property to look like!

If you’re still brainstorming design ideas, then read our blog as we discuss some of the prevalent architectural trends of 2024 to inspire you.

Sustainable Focus

As with many aspects of modern life, sustainability is currently a pivotal focus within both architecture and the construction industry - whilst we’re discussing trends, we wouldn’t consider this simply that; if anything, it’s more of a necessity.

Keeping sustainability at the forefront of your project won’t only ensure your property is designed to better fit in with the surrounding environment and keep your carbon footprint low, but it can actually benefit the final building itself.

By implementing sustainable features into your building, such as green roofs, solar panels and the use of sustainable materials, the property will naturally become more energy efficient, can save you money to live in and even create a cleaner, healthier living space.

Biomimicry

Biomimicry, or biomimetics, is the term used to describe the emulation of the models, systems and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. Biomimetic architecture, then, is a scientific approach to sustainable design that goes beyond using nature as inspiration for aesthetics, but actually studies and adopts principles that are found in natural environments and species to be applied to construction.

For example, the Eastgate Centre in Zimbabwe features a ventilation system inspired by the natural cooling system of termite mounds, whilst the Gherkin in London features a double-layer of glass inspired by the Venus flower basket sponge (a deep-sea creature) to allow it to simultaneously reflect light and let natural light into the ground floor to reduce solar gain in the building.

Consider this kind of approach for your own property construction.

Adaptive Reuse

Adaptive reuse is all about transforming existing structures, reducing the need to start from scratch and stopping such structures from being demolished. New builds don’t have to start from the ground up - they can be created in this way, too!

Consider breathing new life into an old building for your project; with the right artistic vision, you can create something that effectively blends the traditional with the contemporary, offering a brand new way to look at an old building and creating a truly unique property as a result.
